Technology helps children learn, but being exposed too often or too soon could be over stimulating.
That's according to a report from the American Academy of Pediatrics which says parents should limit their children's media use.
The touch of a button. The flick of a switch. Technology controls our lives. But is too much a bad thing?
"Well delayed speech is certainly a possibility and social interaction are going to be negatively impacted if you're child is set up with a DVD player, TV without any kind of human interaction.”
Doctor Radke and others believe screen exposure creates those problems. One educator believes such devices does the same in classrooms.
"Their involvement in technology is total immersion, but it's not the kind of things that are necessarily educational. It's the kinds of things they find distracting or the kinds of things they find more socially important."
Things which can hurt kids social skills. That's why the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends kids limit themselves to one hour a day.
Dr. Radke believes there's still some good out of it.
"After age two it shows, some of the data show that children who are exposed to screens have advanced capability with their literacy and math."
But the A.A.P says parents should monitor their kids. Dr. Radke even agrees.
"The biggest thing for parents is to realize is that if their child is going to spend some time in front of the screen to again limit it to no more than one hour per day and to also be with them to be there as if they're reading a book."
And Walker says teachers should do the same.
"I think they can do it best by giving the students I guess off the grid instruction and experience so they can create their own framework for judgment".
And make kids more proactive.
