Sunnyvale holds second annual Technology Expo - Milpitas Post

The latest high-tech fare from Sunnyvale-area businesses was on display at the city’s annual Technology Business Expo, held Oct. 26 at Plaza del Sol in the heart of downtown.

The event featured informational booths and demonstrations from larger companies with a Sunnyvale presence, such as LinkedIn and Google, but also featured a number of demonstrations from smaller tech companies and startups, showing off their gadgets to residents.

Last year was the city’s inaugural expo, and city staff said it’s a good venue to showcase local tech.

One such company was SHEnetics, which develops artificial intelligence targeting automotive, hospitality and healthcare markets. According to co-founder Dan Flanegan, SHEnetics is in talks to partner with toys and car companies that could use its artificial intelligence in products.

Visitors at the demo booth asked the artificial intelligence in one product to point them to the nearest sushi restaurant, translate phrases and play songs.

“It’s fun to show people what we are doing and have them interact with it. That’s why we thought it would be good to be out here and have people’s feedback,” Flanegan said. “We were wondering how many people would be out here. Since things have kicked off, we’ve been doing these demos nonstop. “

Throughout the day, people watched a delivery robot from Starship Technologies zip back and forth around the plaza. Earlier this year, the company got approval from the City Council to have the wheeled robots make deliveries within the city on behalf of businesses.

A company called Live Well! demonstrated its hypertension reduction therapy device, designed to help decrease blood pressure. A startup called Betteroo showed off a reusable sleeve, which it says can extend battery life up to six times longer than normal.

According to Bateroo marketing specialist Shayda Roohparvar, the company was there to gauge product interest from attendees.

“Everyone sounds pretty interested. We’ve gotten a lot of visitors,” Roohparvar said.

The Sunnyvale Public Library was on hand to promote some of the technology available there. It now offers a digital learning lab that allows patrons to use library space, equipment and software to create videos, music and graphic design projects and convert photos, music and video to a digital format.
