High school students in Kentucky are locking up their phones for a week.

Juniors at Beechwood High School agreed to give up technology for seven days.
The experiment is part of the students' curriculum. Teachers want them to learn how to live without relying on social media and mobile devices.
Teacher Julie Rash says students have physical reactions to being deprived of their communication devices.
"There’s anxiety, some of it’s physical," she said. "Shaking, sweating, a lot of reaching for the phone in the back pocket. A lot of, ‘I need to get a hold of somebody and I don't know how.’"
The students aren't the only ones affected by the purge - Rash says parents can be just as addicted to technology as the students.
As for the students, they’re learning how to live without their devices.
"I use it so much as a buffer in social settings," said student Ava Hutson. "I need to learn to let go of that and to have more human interaction, which I know is horrible to say, but when you grow up in this day in age, it's kind of hard to keep that mentality.”
